Maikoenigin

Maikoenigin (May Queen) around the world are crowned during the month of May and celebrate the revival of life and coming of Spring. Their coronation is synonymous with many German Maifest celebrations. In some areas the Queen does not stand alone but is part of a royal pair or even family.

At GAST, the May Queen, is an integral part of the Society. Her coronation is a tradition at GAST's Maifest, Germanfest, and she serves as a representative for the Society throughout the year wherever needed. This is more often than not at the Societies events and parties but also at non-Society events such as Tulsa's Oktoberfest. The May Queen at GAST also hosts two unique and special parties for children. One in April around the time of Easter and one in December after Christkindlmarkt.

When our May Queen's are coronated they are given a bouquet of flowers from the Society, a crown of flowers made by member(s), are chaperoned and crowned by the previous years May Queen, receive the formal Maikoenigin sash to be worn at any formal function as a symbol of status, and they gain all the rights and duties of GAST's Maikoenigin as Germanfest comes to a close and the new season of life begins with the welcoming of Spring. To commemorate the occasion, our May Queen will often given a short speech and share a dance with a chosen partner.

Easter Party

Our May Queen's April party is all about Easter. There is usually an egg hunt, crafts and other activities, and sometimes cookie decorating. There has even been, on occasion, a visit from the Easter Bunny.

Christmas Party

Our May Queen's December party is all about Christmas. Generally held after Christkindlmarkt, it continues the German Christmas traditions of Saint Nikolaus and Christkind with gifts, activities, and merriment.
